Since I first caught wind of the formality of ‘High Tea’ I have always wanted to experience it. I like to imagine myself as one of the royal gals, having my fine friends over for a cup of tea and a nibble ’round 4pm in order to get me through to dinner time. To be honest, any excuse to have miniature versions of an array of sweet gems washed down with a pot of great tea…
Beautiful Baked Mini Cheesecakes
Held in the beautifully decorated Vista Bar and Lounge with the sweet sounds of Acoustic Element (the musical duo is bursting with talent) carrying you through your sugar-ephoria, High Tea at the One & Only in Cape Town is nothing but a treat. There is of course a savoury side to the afternoon, a selection ranging from cucumber sandwhiches to bobotie tartlets, that I won’t fail to mention. But truthfully, I was there for the table laden with French pâtisserie-style treats made by the talented Kyle Hickman and his team.

The die-hard tea fan will be delighted by the variety of fine teas they have to offer; rooibos and ceylon being included in the price and the more exotic Japanese, spicy Rooibos blends and blooming teas coming at an additional cost. I had a Green tea blended with cherry and rose, which I enjoyed for it’s florally notes but unfortunately I let it steep too long and it was tad bitter. My mother however, had a gorgeous Rooibos blend with orange, cardamom and cinnamon that I’d recommend!

What a beautiful post!
Whilst the One & Only is wonderful – the crown jewel in the Cape Town High Tea crown has got to be the Mount Nelson! Their high tea is truly spectacular!
Happy feasting!
Awesome! Thanks Tahlia
Been meaning to go there they’ve just always been booked up. Went to the Planet Bar last night and it was stunning so can imagine their high tea is next level 😉
